Snuffle Balls
- Does your dog scarf down their food in record time?
- Do you wish to keep them busy so there is less destruction and more contentment?
- Would you like to find a way to provide mental enrichment for your dog?
- Would you like to help ACT Pet Crisis Support in our mission to assist disadvantaged pet owners?
One of our snuffle balls may be the answer!
These snuffle balls are made of quality fleece secured by cable ties.
First Time Use
The first time you use a snuffle ball, place some kibble or treats between the fleece folds when your dog is hungry and let them roll the ball around to find them. Help them find one or two treats if they are having trouble or trying to chew through the fleece before getting the hang of it. Don’t bury the treats too deep and count them as you put them in to make sure they are all found. You can gradually increase the difficulty over time by hiding treats deeper within the ball.
As a Slow-Feeder
You can place dry food inside the ball to help to slow down fast-eaters.
Crate Training
When teaching your dog to love their crate, utilise the snuffle ball, but unless you are 100% sure your dog is not going to chew the ball, do not leave them alone. Remove the ball once your pet is done.
Care of the Snuffle Ball
The more the smells build up in the ball, the more fun it becomes. However you should shake out any debris from the ball after each use, spot clean if needed, and pop it outside in direct sunlight regularly. When it’s ready for a full wash, soak it in pet-friendly shampoo/clothes detergent and cold water for an hour then rinse well with cold water. Gently wring out excess water, check for any damage, and leave to air dry in the sun.
Supervise During Use
Some dogs will chew the fleece, which can be a problem and even lead to surgery to remove foreign material. It’s best to err on the side of caution and always supervise during use.
