If you are a pet owner, your first step is to visit a vet clinic. Any vet clinic can apply for help from our charity on your behalf if you have no other way to pay for urgent care for your pet.
If your vet is not aware of how to apply for financial help, please ask them to read the section on our website under 'my client needs help' or our FAQ's section.
If you are on a pension or hold a Healthcare Card you may also qualify for assistance via the Tiny Vet Clinic. More information can be found about the Tiny Vet Clinic here.
When seeking assistance from the charity, you will first need to complete a VetPay application, as this is how we assess financial need. Please do this before asking for assistance and so that you can show your veterinarian that you have applied. If your pet needs an elective, non-urgent procedure you can access an interest-free loan via local organisation Care, Good Shepherd or Centrelink.
If you are having trouble finding a vet to see your pet due to lack of funds, or have been referred to us by the RSPCA, please fill out the following information form and we will attempt to get back to you within 72 hours with additional advice. Please also ring local clinics to see if you can make an appointment for your pet, as we will not be able to do this on your behalf. Unfortunately vets are very busy at the moment, so there can be up to a 2 week wait for an appointment and many are not taking on new clients, so finding an available appointment is the first step.
If your pet is in need of urgent veterinary attention and it is afterhours, please contact The Animal Referral Hospital at Piallago and Canberra Veterinary Emergency Service in Gunghalin. The Walk in Clinic for Animals in Belconnen is also a good option, they are open from 7pm-10.30pm 7 nights a week. They can all access financial help on your behalf if you qualify for assistance.
Please do not wait for us to respond if your pet needs veterinary attention, please ring a veterinary clinic.
